It is in this context that seminary formation needs to be re-examined so that seminarians may be better prepared to take on the challenge of becoming agents of renewal in the church and society through the priestly ministry. On the one hand, there is a need to recalibrate the program of seminary formation recognizing the fact that the seminarians are products of a new phenomenon reshaping Philippine culture and society.

On the other hand, the publication of “The Gift of Priestly Vocation:

Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis” in 2016 called for the updating of the current national Ratio, the “Updated Philippine Program for Priestly Formation” prepared by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) Episcopal by the Congregatio de Institutione Catholica (DeSeminariis atque Studiorum Institutis) in 2005. The updated Ratio Formation is which provides general orientations and direction to individual seminaries in the Philippines, is an attempt to respond to this need and call for continuous updating.
